10 years ago, I embarked on a 3-month journey that ultimately became one of my most memorable experiences. Here are 10 fun facts & things I learned as a Miss Chinese Vancouver (MCVP) participant.
1. I grew up watching and admiring the women of MCVP as a kid, so when I became an adult, I decided to go for it.
2. The heart of the event raises funds and awareness towards the Canadian Cancer Society.
3. To prepare for auditions, I practiced the catwalk in its traditional way...by balancing text books on my head.
4. All of us worked hard on maintaining a good physique so I challenged myself on a low carb diet...with the occasional french fry or two.
5. The traditional qipao was my favourite dress during the show.
6. We learned and practiced tai chi over the course of 3 months and realized just how much of a workout it could be!
7. The friends I made are some of my best friends today.
8. #6 Carrie Wang selflessly carving out time during Chinese dance rehearsals to teach me how to spin the fan in my solo was something I cannot forget!
9. Listen to those willing to give you constructive criticism.
10. Taking a risk is definitely worth it but just because you are willing to, does not mean you do not have to work hard. Try, try, try and have no regrets!
I thought it would be fun to write about my roots to end 2016 - hope you enjoyed this one :) Although years ago, I will always be grateful to everyone involved in the production of the show including crew, volunteers and the 9 other ladies. A special thank you to Fairchild Television, all the friends and my family who supported me during this unforgettable time.
