“I think what makes a good story is just like a good song, you have to be able to move people.”
Q. Tell me about your work at Finest Moment Film.
Erik: I'm a video producer focusing on telling love stories through micro films. They document how a couple first meets, their initial dates, and conflicts that lead up to their engagement.
Q. What projects have you been working on recently?
I was in LA recently to build my portfolio. Also just to travel by myself because we learn a lot about ourselves when we travel alone. I conducted a contest where I offered to shoot a free video in LA for the couple with the most photo shares. I shot for the winning couple, Joy & Michael (video above) and I was very lucky as they took me around town and treated me so well.
Also, I didn't know anyone in LA prior to going there, and through Joy & Michael and my friends, I was again very lucky to meet new friends and have them take me on new adventures that I otherwise wouldn't have experienced.
Q. I haven't met Joy & Michael, but they looked absolutely adorable in the video. What was the process of producing the video for them?
We had production meetings to get an idea of the timeline of the story. I was lucky to work with Joy & Michael because they were a very natural couple. Throughout shooting, I would direct them on a scene, and they would add their own details and flavour or continue with a scene unscripted.
Q. What was Joy & Michael's reaction when they saw the completed video?
They were very happy with it and I think the final product was beyond what they were expecting.
Q. What was your most memorable moment during your trip to LA?
Everything was so memorable. One of them must be when Joy & Michael took me to their church and I ran into my childhood idol, Andy Lee of Tension (R&B / pop band discovered by artist/producer David Tao). I even had the chance to record a song cover with him!
Q. What do you think makes a good story?
I think what makes a good story is just like a good song, you have to be able to move people.
For example, when I'm shooting the proposal, the viewers sitting at home watching should feel nervous or excited for the guy (or girl) when they pop the big question. The audience should be able to relate to the characters or story.
Q. What are your future goals?
I want to create content that is amazing. Something that people would want to share with their friends and family.
Thank you Erik for your time and I'm looking forward to watching the stories that you will be re-creating for some lucky couples.
